Urpeth Parish Council - Annual Report 2024/25
We are proud to serve the residents of Urpeth, a historic parish within the unitary authority of County Durham. Our council represents the first tier of local government, working to ensure that the voice of our community is heard and that local services meet the needs of all residents. Urpeth has a rich heritage dating back to its origins as a township within Chester-le-Street parish. Historically, the area grew during the 19th century as a thriving coal mining community, with Urpeth Colliery operating until 1957. Today, Urpeth encompasses the villages of Urpeth, Low Urpeth, High Urpeth, Beamish, West Pelton, Pelton-Lane-Ends and High Handenhold.
